Well a lot of water's gone under the old bridge & over the dam since my last BLAST OUT to the citizens of Zero, NW FL. Recharged my April Fool battreezzzzzzzz with a little Panty Maw City Beach vacation but also lost another good friend. This cigar box label commemorates all of the battles U. S. Grant participated in during the Mexican War & the Civil War. The irony is that Grant's first Civil War battles, Paducah @ the mouth of the Tennessee on the Ohio River & Ft. Donelson on the Cumberland River, were precursors to the April 1862 capture of so many Wiregrass area troops @ Island No. 10 on the Mississippi River including my Great-great uncle, Geneva's William Duncan Register. http://www.mcwm.org/history_stlouis_ships.html

Buie has some of Roy's clothes. He left them with Buie in Atlanta just before he died because he'd started smoking again & didn't want his wife to smell tobacco on his clothes. Buie says that EVERY TIME he heard Roy sing, the hair stood up on the back of his neck.

My family vacationed in Panama City from 1958 on. I knew the "Hangout" well, but was too young to do much more than the penny arcades, a place where for a nickel, you could have your name stamped on a replica of a doubloon.

As teen, I experienced it during AEA holidays, noticing the dance floor was jammed with revelers, and watched them shake it from the sand below. How can one forget music blasting over lousy PA's, and the kids dancing their asses off. I was grateful to see, at eye level from the sand below, many a bootie being shaken to the point of distraction. As a 10th grader, all the seniors got the girls, so us lowly freshmen were grateful to see anything.

I do remember it was a somewhat seedy place, but lively as hell which was all that mattered. Wooden dance floor, open air parameters, and folks fighting for a space to dance.

I may have caught it's final days, but it's something I'll never forget.
