By the way, your friend Jimmy Dean sent me The James Gang CD and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Music of My Life is now on my iPod and takes me on my beach walk every morning.

Here's the lyrics of the song "The Day Bear Bryant Died" By Buddy Buie and Ronnie Hammond (music publisher EUFAULA MUSIC) :

Voice over of Coach Bryant:
"I've said this before, of course,
I've said anytime I've had the opportunity that I wouldn't trade places with anyone in the world because of the privilege of being here at The University & passing my time here.

I WILL never put anything against your education. We want that to come first.

ON THE OTHER HAND WE WANT FOOTBALL!!!!

To be second!

We want football to be second!

Because we feel a very strong obligation to you and we feel like you should to The University because it works both ways.

First of all,
we want you to write home!

THANK YOU!

lyrics of "The Day Bear Bryant Died" by Buddy Buie & Ronnie Hammond

I'll never forget the day
That I heard the news
Bear Bryant has died!!!!
Funny, I thought he'd refuse
I watched as they laid him to rest
In Old Alabama
OH how I cried
The day Bear Bryant died

ROLL TIDE!!!!

ROLL TIDE!!!!

The Nation Cried
Friend and Foe Alike
The Legend Lives On
THE HERO IS GONE!
Oh how I cried
The Day Bear Bryant died.

The day he was born
GOD gave us one of a kind
& I'm glad he did
'Cause heroes are so hard to find
Many a fine young man
He led into battle
He taught them to win
He turned boys into men

ROLL TIDE!!!!

ROLL TIDE!!!!

The Nation cried!
Friend & foe alike
The Legend lives on!
The HERO is gone!
OH! How I cried
The Day Bear Bryant Died.

ROLL TIDE!!!!
ROLL TIDE!!!!
The Nation cried
Friend & Foe alike
The Legend Lives On!
THE HERO IS GONE!OH! How I cried
The Day Bear Bryant Died.

On Making
"The Day Bear Bryant Died" A Commercial Success
Buddy,
Alex Gatewood, the owner of the Locker Room Men's Clothing Store, told me today they played the CD on JOCKS, a sports radio show.

You cost me money today, Bro' man! I took off and hour and a half early from work in order to change clothes and promote your CD. Don't worry though, I'll just put it on your tab. You now owe me a dozen raw and a dozen baked at Hunt's.

Well, the first person to get a CD was Junior. I gave it to his personal assistant Melissa and our meeting went great! I had met her last April when Paul Jr. invited me to his office to see his collection of Civil War memorabilia and lithographs. Who knows, he might want the song for his new Bryant Bank http://www.bryantbank.com/index.asp?page=939

I met Paul last year at the John Caldwell Calhoun Sanders lecture series he sponsors on campus. This year it will be on Saturday April 1 which is also the A-Day Game which ends spring practice. I'm pretty sure that's the weekend Harrison wants you to come to Tuscaloosa. I can get you reservations to the lecture and the free lunch. It is one of the best days on campus because it's dedicated to the 900 University alums who fought for the Confederacy. This year William C. Davis http://www.history.vt.edu/Davis/ will discuss the formation of the Confederate government. You'll love it and you'll really enjoy meeting Paul Jr.

My next stop was the Paul W. Bryant Museum http://bryantmuseum.ua.edu/ where I left a CD, business card and the transcript of the lyrics on the desk of the director, Ken Gaddy. The Bryant Museum will also have special programs scheduled for Saturday, April 1.
PUT THAT ON YOUR DAMN CALENDER NOW, FOOL!Next I visited with Pat Whetstone, director of Alumni Affairs http://alumni.ua.edu/
He was very happy that I gave Junior the first CD. He had a new Bear book on his desk.

Last but not least I left Million Dollar Band Director Kenneth Ozzello a CD, lyric sheet and business card. I explained everything to his secretary.

Pretty productive hour, huh?!!!!

Reply Re: Classics IV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My experince with the Classics is an interesting one. In early 1966 they were booked at Surfside on Clearwater Beach. The lead guitarist had smashed his hand in a car door and Alan Edelman got me the gig to play with them till the guitarist healed. Alan worked for the City of Clearwater and booked all the Star Spectaculars...plus he owned a motel on Clearwater Beach where many of the groups stayed. Anyway, Alan knew I was bandless and got me the gig. When I first saw Dennis playing the drums standing up, I thought he must have had hemroids or something that kept him from sitting. The Candymen also played Surfside quite a bit. I only played a week, but it was a great experience.
