Buddy:
My name is Robert Register. I live in Northport across the river from Tuscaloosa and I grew up in Dothan.
I never missed a dance at the Rec Center in the mid-Sixties.
I have started a bunch of blogs which I wish you would take a few minutes and look over. I am very interested in financing a Dothan Rock 'N Roll mural in downtown Dothan and I have talked to people on the committee but it's basically a money thing.
Please check out my blogs and the attached material. I would love to hear from you.
Best,
Robert Register

B~
I'm an old Tuskeeloossee friend of John Allen (jackass) Cassady.
Seeing as how you trying to help writers, I've tried my hand at fiction twice.

About 15 yrs. ago I wrote a play about being the only light skinned male academic teacher in a B'ham high school and I wrote a sci-fi novel about a Jesus freak who decides to destroy the Earth by eliminating growth control in reptiles.

Phoebe~ My boss, Lee Pake, & his son, Kevin, along with their wives, are heading to NYC this morning for some sort of National Home Builders meeting. They'll be staying in Times Square. If you could just find one little bitty moment in your busy day where you could pass along to us a little information about MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, we'd certainly appreciate it. They'll be looking for four tickets one night this week & will probably try to buy them at the last minute so they might be able to save a nickel. Any help you can give my bossman will showl be 'preciated, Miss Phoebe.

Robert Register Yeah, I got that back in the day but you can't believe how many people came up to me after he played in THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ, Dreyfuss weirded out my friends because not only did he look like me, HE ACTED LIKE ME! Later on, I was visiting Mobile & I was out in this subdivision off Old Shell Road built in a pecan orchard & these folks go,"Richard Dreyfuss lives next door." He was living in that house in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS where he builds Devils Tower. Weird!

Hey Robert,
Chris at the Garage Hangover web site just put up an Omen & Their Luv page with several of our songs and pics. I also met with Tommy Stuart last week about putting out a CD of all of our studio sessions from 1966 to 1971. He has a guy who can restore our old tapes from the Boutwell "Church" sessions and our Jackson, Ms sessions. Tippy Armstong played on some of these and have some of the best guitar licks by him that are remaining.

Robert Register Lance Griffin wrote a great front page article about THE SONGWRITERS ROUNDTABLE in Saturday's EAGLE but it's not on the Web. Lance called it THE BLUE COLLAR SONGWRITERS TOUR. http://www2.dothaneagle.com/news/2010/sep/10/songwriters-roundtable-im-95713/

......"People always ask me, 'How do you write all those songs? Where do they come from?' "
(J.R.) Cobb shrugged his shoulders.

Some songwriters get their material from traumatic experiences. Others write from the rapture of love and still others are inspired by the seemingly insurmountable.

But legendary songwriter J.R. Cobb let slip a less than well-kept secret Friday night during THE SONGWRITERS ROUNDTABLE about how most songwriters come up with their stuff.

"People always ask me,'How do you write all those songs? Where do they come from?'"

Cobb shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't know. Take a drink of whiskey. ..."

Cobb and fellow songwriters Buddy Buie, Wayne Carson, Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons wrote enough gold records to balance the treasury. They wrote country hits such as "ALWAYS ON MY MIND" by Willie Nelson; Southern Rock hits including "SO INTO YOU" by the Atlanta Rhythm Section and old time rock 'n' roll hits such as "BE YOUNG, BE FOOLISH, BE HAPPY" by the Tams.

They came together at the Dothan Civic Center on Friday night to talk about the stories behind the songs, sing a little and laugh a lot.

You could have called it THE BLUE COLLAR SONGWRITERS TOUR.

But the real reason behind the gathering was to raise money for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disese) research. By the end of the night, organizers were hoping to have raised around $50,000.

"I can't think of a better reason to get together," said Buie, who helped organize the event.

They did a little rocking, reminiscing, reflecting and remembering the times when just about every time they put pen to paper, a hit was produced.

And not every song came from a shrug of the shoulders and a drink of whiskey.

Well, not just a shrug of the shoulders and a drink of whiskey.

Moman's hit "LUCKENBACH, TEXAS" (recorded by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson) came after an all-night studio session mixed with a conversation with a couple in the studio kitchen.

"They asked me if I had ever been to Luckenbach, Texas," Moman said. "When Bobby (Emmons) came in the next morning, I told him we needed to go to Luckenbach, Texas."

"He said, 'with Waylon and Willie?'"

LET'S GO TO LUCKENBACH,
TEXAS
WITH WAYLON AND WILLIE
AND THE BOYS
THIS SUCCESSFUL LIFE WE'RE
LIVIN'S
GOT US FEUDING LIKE THE HATFIELDS
AND MCCOYS
BETWEEN HANK WILLIAM'S
PAIN SONGS AND
NEWBURY'S TRAIN SONGS AND
BLUE EYES CRYIN' IN THE RAIN
OUT IN LUCKENBACH, TEXAS
AIN'T NOBODY FEELIN' NO PAIN

The stories and the laughter flowed into the night.

After the roundtable, fans were treated to musical performances from THE STRANGERS and the BopCats, Wilbur Walton,Jr., David Adkins, Rodney Justo, Mitch Goodson, Jimmy Watford and Paul Hornsby.

The reason the book sold for so much for the worthy cause is that the title page of the book included the signatures of the great songwriters shown above. It may have even sold for more but $500.00 is the last number we saw on the bid sheet at the silent auction at “A Songwriter’s Round table” It was a nusical festival featuring the music of five exceptional Southern Songwriters and Producers. I was fortunate to have a backstage pass . Emcee Gil Anthony even brought me on stage following the writer’s round table discussion so I could extol the virtues of the Heeey Baby Days to the thousands assembled at Dothan Alabama’s Civic Center. It must have paid off for the book sold for more at this event than any of the other charity event at which it has been auctioned. Of course, Robert Register, said to me afterwards that if I had not have gotten on stage , it would have sold for more. It seems that some people took offense to my comment that the reason the book was made large was for use as a weapon against the Crimson Tide and War Eagles… It was a joke… I was kiddin’ besides I had not even thought about that possibility.

Robert Register This sux so bad. Makes you wanna punch somebody hard on the end of the
nose. One of the few artifacts of my HYSTERICAL career has disappeared.
It took over 5 yrs. to get the SOUTHERN BOUNDARY OF THE UNITED STATES
1795-1819 HISTORIC MARKER put up by the Historic Chattahoochee
Commission & the Houston County Commission o...n the 231 northbound
lane right at the old fireworks stand on the Florida Line. Now it's
gone. I'm gonna find out what happened.

Robert Register Here's a picture of Christopher beside the missing historic marker taken by his uncle, Buddy Henry, back in the summer of '08. The original ELLICOTT'S STONE Historic Marker was stolen back in the 1990s and was eventually found in two pieces in a Mobile County junk yard.

So I got back home safely and this weekend visited Apartment C, 1519 8th Street, my residence from '73 until '80

These were taken by a very talented professional photographer/ graphic artist, and I am proud to say, also a friend.
Her Name is Tina Varner Davis
Check out her website http://www.tinavarner.com/
The date was last Saturday night, Sept 4th, 2010. in Cartersville Ga.
I just purchased the website name paulgoddard.net and there will soon be my own site on the net.

Me and Emily after the show.
