email from THE ROCKER:

Well,I've been looking at Small faces stuff for an hour now.

When I was In the Candymen.we loved those guys.We did a tour of England where they were the co-headliners with Orbison ( an unlikely pairing, but not as weird as the other tour that was going on at the same time with Hendrix,The Walker Brothers and maybe even Englebert Humperdink on the same bill)

The Small Faces were a great bunch of guys who LOVED to have a good time.

A couple of us went to one of their sessions at Olympic Studios while they recorded "Get yourself together" ( I think that I played tamborine on it)

I ran into Ian McLagen "Mac" in London in a small hotel about 3 years ago and we stayed up for hours reminiscing about that tour,Orbison,Ronnie Lane,

He mentioned in his book ALL THE RAGE the trick that we played on Orbison the last night of the tour where we tuned his guitar up a while step to make it harder for him to sing.
As soon as he hit the first note on his guitar he turned around, looked at us and said "Sons a Bitches"

He was beautiful.

Titania's lullaby in A Midsummer Night's Dream also asks Philomel to "sing in our sweet lullaby."

Hey Roberto----

B. J. wanted to attend Buddy's hall of fame induction but was booked and couldn't make it. I told him you were there and took some photos and he wanted to see them so I forwarded your email to him. Talked to Buddy this morning to tell him how good he looked in a tux, and he told me his mother had just passed away. We all knew her so well from the old days. The funeral as far as I know is Saturday am 11 o'clock at Southside Baptist Church here in Dothan. I told B about it and called Wilbur Jr. and told him. She was a kind lady of the classic sort; after we would play a concert for Buddy at the farm center here we would all troop down to Buie's City Cafe afterwards and eat a good meal of great steaks and their fantastic bread pudding. She was really sweet to all of us. I shared a table with a lot of famous folks of that era at the City Cafe downtown.

TDC inducts McCarty artwork

Walton County’s Tourist Development Council held a reception for 2009 Artist of the Year Michael McCarty March 9 as his commissioned artwork was inducted into the Art in Public Places program.

Aptly named “26 Miles of Paradise,” McCarty incorporated things he loved into his commissioned piece — iconic pavilions at Seaside and Alys Beach, beach flags, seashells, the Beaches of South Walton logo, a Walton 30A sign, a crane, and even one of the Polka-dot Pussycat Pool girls.

McCarty named the painting for the 26 miles of shoreline that draws visitors to our area year after year, including many that make it their home.

McCarty was one of those who spent years visiting the area before making it his full-time home. He lived in Atlanta for 35 years before moving to the place his family had brought him since 1946.

“This is an inspirational area,” the former Artist of the Year said.

“The piece is a vibrant reflection of life along the Beaches of South Walton,” said Vicki Kitahara, TDC director of new product development. “Michael’s signature style colorfully captures the wonderful natural and whimsical elements of people and places that set the Beaches of South Walton apart from anywhere else in the world.”

Walton County Commissioner Sara Comander told those at the induction that “artists and their work enrich our lives.”

“Twenty Six Miles of Paradise” will permanently hang at the Walton County Courthouse Annex near the artwork of two former Artists of the Year, Justin Gaffrey and Phil Kiser. McCarty is recognized on a plaque below the artwork.

The annex is located at 31 Coastal Centre Boulevard at the Government and Education Center on U.S. Highway 331S

Robert,
It was while doing a web search for "Rozzelle" that I happened upon your Rock Pilgrimage data http://rockpilgrimage.blogspot.com & saw the name of "Travis Rozzelle." Travis's Dad (Pete) was my Dad's brother. After Uncle Pete died, we unfortunately did not see or hear much of his widow & children. Although Palmetto & Reform were my parents's homeland, we moved to different locations due to my Dad's construction work.
It was quite coincidental that I learned the location of Travis's brother, Roger. I have been corresponding with him since the week of Christmas 2009.
I noted that "Hopper" had posted he would try & find some pics to send you. If you should have any available pics of Travis, I would appreciate your forwarding them that I might send them to Roger. He has only two pictures of his family~one is of his late sister Cindy & the other was of him, Cindy, his Mom, Travis & Wayne from perhaps the early 1960's. He would be so grateful for any information/photos that could be shared.
My computer is very old, my printer died three years ago but, if you could possibly print them, I would be glad to reimburse you. It would certainly mean a lot to Roger OR if you prefer, they could be mailed directly to him. I WILL AWAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU FIRST!
In reading info on your site, I noticed the name of a local, Norman Andrews. When I first moved near Dothan, I often heard him at the Heart of Dothan~they had a club "The Mouse Trap" but also heard him numerous other times.
Thanks,
Kathy Rozzelle Pittman

Kathy~
Hope I can help with finding a picture of Travis. I'm forwarding this to Hopper.

In April '08, we had a memorial service for Norman @ Cowboys ( the old Flamingo Club). Here's a youtube video of Buddy Buie & Wilbur Walton, Jr., singing GEORGIA PINES.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YpVtW4cKvo

I'm publishing your message to me on ROCK PILGRIMAGE.

BEST,

Caustic Corn Flakes

by Bruce Wallace

Ah, vapid world, speak your phlegmatic mood;

Whipporwill, breathe your plaintive melody;

Deathwatch, tick to my timely fall.

I will endure your pricks ---

I will listen, for my name is not

Progress.

Son of a gun! It’s the water theologian, back again.

Aren’t you black and blue from our last encounter?

Oh, I see; you persist:

Love is dead?

Life is dead?

God is dead?

You are dead, solemn man.

Oh, the shotgun man, the shotgun man, as you

Consecrate enscription,

Deny affiliation,

Place your hand in other’s hand, in

Debonaire debenture.

You’re an air mechanic.

And your friend, the galvanic medusa,

With her lips of smoldering lettuce

And her measured strokes of cancer

And her anti-connubial medallions.

She cannot see my mecca.

Zounds! With lightning-like accuracy, here they come:

Fantastic Ferny and his Frugal Fuddie-Duddies!

Quite astounding! Quite absurd!

Nevertheless, the company breaks through to enforce

a surcharge on conventionality.

“Sound the retreat!” Benny Bugler is told,

As he trumpets a tune for all ages but old;

Wounds are exchanged, then they all go inside

To their littered apartments to cower with pride.

Drugs are the bane of pigs.

Hear you talkin’:

“Land O Goshen runs for another term,”

while Baseman lies, stunned, in your institute of

correction.

You say you are a growing dwarf.

Today is the birthday of soul.

Upon each rung of Zebedee’s ladder

You feel yourself ascend,

Dazzled by illumined gladiators of love,

Tempered with peachy sun speckles on

some close faraway glen,

Or splashing through wafts, waves, and waddling humanity.

Living all?

You hypocrites! Man tastes like a spoiled guava.

What mean you, forty-watt Philomel?

Hush, or I’ll unplug you.

Hear me, all you Quack Quakers, led by a

pyromanial Cupid, who tire and

constrict my soul ---

Leave me with my blues.

Hey y'all~

Not only has ZERO, NORTHWEST FLORIDA surpassed 8600 hits on Google but we got all kindzzzzzzzzzzz uv nonsense coming out of the richest repository of the World's Most Useless Knowledge Known To HUMANITY.

No doubt about it,I needed to recharge the battrieezzzzzzzzzzzzzz in PCB this weekend.

I'm not sure when I'll finish my blast about the H of F event but in the words of Christopher Register, "Thanks, Dad, THAT WAS SOLID!"
Christopher was so handsome in his tux and his girl, Carsen, was gorgeous.

I got so many autographs it was ridiculous. Hit it off with Eddie Floyd. He wants me to get him booked in Tuscaloosa. I introduced him to Christopher with this comment,"My son served Wilson Pickett supper & got to spend time with him before he took the stage." Floyd replied,"You're not gonna believe where I'm supposed to be tonight. Today is Wilson's birthday and they're having a celebration in his hometown of Prattville! I'm was supposed to be there!"

Randy Owen, the lead singer for Alabama, walked up to Christopher out of the blue & said,"Hey, you've got my hair." It's the truth! Christopher's shaggy head looked just like Owen's did back in the early 80s.

My date, Billy Joe Royal, was a hoot. What a card! He kept his hands and feet to himself but he called me "Darling" and "Sweetheart" one or two too many times.

Gloria Buie, Buddy's wife, was radiant. It was a wonderful event for Buie's family.

Lots more stories. Event of the lifetime.

Thanks again for the newspapers.

best,
