Little Bobby is the cat in the hat...
Re: Candymen
If scroll about halfway down my weblog you will find pictures of Little Bobby Peterson [Candymen, The McCoys, Neal Diamond] and Dean Daughtry. Both Bobby and Dean played with the Candymen. Dean played keyboards for both the Classics IV and the Candymen before the formation of The Atlanta Rhthym Section.

Remembering The Blue Beetles at The Par Tee
Dothan's own JIMMY DEAN on the PAR TEE in MEAhhMeee:
We (the James Gang) played at the Par Tee Lounge in Miami many times back then too. I've always wondered if it's still there and what happened to the owner---I think his name was Stu. He gave us a bottle of champagne on our last night there in 65; we raided his cooler and completely wiped out his champagne supply. He took it well, but never offered us free booze again.

I remember the BlueBeetles.
They were playing a club north of us once when we were playing the ParTee.
I think that it looked like a Tudor style English Pub and it was I think in Coral gables.
Fred Neil who wrote Candyman as well as Everybody's Talkin' and The Dolphin used to play there.
It seems to me that they were getting ready to play in the Bahamas which I thought was really cool.
That was very early in the Candymen days.Little Bobby Peterson was playing keyboards.
We got to be really good friends with a band called The Pods who were pretty much a Beatle band.
Mario Castellanos was a really talented guy who played guitar ,bass, and drums.Maybe even more for all I know. They also had Chris on guitar,Albert on guitar, and Willie on drums.I think Willie had some success as a latin singer later on.
We ran into Mario at the Action House in Long Island (of RAscals fame) and I also saw him once in Alabama when I was with Beaverteeth doing a show with Leslie West and he showed up.
Mario was a true vagabond who was happy to go from city to city in his van singing.
I would bet that the guys in the Blue Beetles remember them as well.
Little Bobby Peterson of the Candymen
Maybe the Limestone Lounge Lizards can help out on this one. Nobody seems to know what happened to Little Bobby Peterson. There are pictures of him on my blog robertoreg.blogspot.com
Here's what Rockin' Rodney Justo had to say:
ANOTHER CORRECTION FROM A SUPER GUY, RODNEY JUSTO:
Dean Daughtry isn't in the Candymen picture attached. It's Bobby Peterson who preceded Dean in the Candymen. He was a really talented guy who had to leave the group because he was drafted. After he got "dismissed" from the military we introduced him to Rick Derringer and he joined the McCoys. I got a call from a lady about 25 years ago that claimed to be his wife and she told me that he was working with Neil Diamond and died of a brain hemmorage. But then again someone told me about 5 years ago that he was living on the streets of Gainesville,Fl.
------- Tim: Rockin' Rodney On Little Bobby Peterson
Tim
Bobby did indeed wear some "weird" glasses.
He was one of a kind.
If you saw him on the street you would walk right by him but, something magical happened when he got on a stage. He became the focal point.
I would say as well that there was the same scenario with ARS with Paul Goddard where the Bass player was easily the most recognizable member of the band.
When he got drafted, and we replaced him with Dean Daughtry the rest of the guys were really nervous about how we would be received.
The strange thing about The Candymen and our initial engagement at the ParTee was that we had only been together as a working band for a month.
JohnRainey was at that time, queer for rehearsing, and, we would practice like madmen. So,by the time we started working we were prepared.
On the way to Miami in the bus I remember Robert Nix standing up and saying"I predict that Jackie Gleason sees us when we're in Miami and has us on his TV show"
As far as seeing a pretend ARS I've never heard of such a thing.
Maybe you saw JR Cobb who was with both the Classics IV and ARS.
One more thing about the BlueBeetles.....didn't one of them have an alliterative name like Buddie Buie.
Rodney
Re: Tim: Rockin' Rodney On Little Bobby Peterson
Rodney,
I would imagine that would have been our guitar player Bobby Brean. Van Dyke and wore glasses, a wonderful entertainer. JR Cobb sounds familiar. He played at the Par Tee for the second owner Bud Pecha...who he remembered as being a drunk. We would have to get him out of the "Tank" to get paid...unfortunately we watched the club go down the drain. After seeing the Candymen picture at Roy's home, the faces all come back, especially Nix, Peterson & Justo. Never forget the BIG guy. Bobby story...probably one of the best of my music career. Whether they were pulling our chain I will never know, but Bobby said when the guy's would get "lucky" he would enjoy getting to the room early with a bag of popcorn and hide in a closet and partake of the festivities....man I hope it was a true story! Another question: Was I mistaken about Georgia Pines? My memory...somewhat jaded, seems to remember the Candymen banging it out early on...same as we listened to the Pigeons/Vanilla Fudge mold "You Keep Me Hangin' On" prior to its' release when they went back north.
Tim
Tim.... Poor Bobby NEVER got laid.
We got him hooked up once in Bossier City and the poor girl couldn't get out of her room for three days.Man he was happy!
There are a lot of Bobby stories.
When the army was after him we got a girl from Jacksonville to marry him because the law was that they wouldn't draft you if you were married.
I think that she was a friend of a friend of Robert Nix and we gave her $100.00 or some small pittance. When it got changed to you had to have children that's when we knew that he was doomed.
I do seem to recall an instance when we found out after the fact, that he had been watching "a show"in fact I think that it was in Miami .
You could have very well heard Georgia Pines at the ParTee but you probably heard the James Gang do it because they released a version before we did.
We recorded it as an afterthought because we needed another song for the album, and I did it in I believe one take
I wasn't exactly thrilled when the record company decided to make it our first single.
Bobby Brean, I don't know how I remembered that 40 years later.I was close at least.
Wish I could remember what happened last week.
Man we LOVED the ParTee !!
Great times,great owner,beautiful girls.
Baby it was a LARGE TIME !
What do you do for a livin' now?
Rodney

My Grandaddy hated ninjas but he loved SANFORD & SON http://www.timvp.com/sanford.html

I really didn't know how to ask him but finally I did.
I asked him,
"Grandpa, how come you hate ninjas but you love Red Foxx?"
"I LOVE HIM 'CAUSE HE ACTS JUST LIKE A NINJA!!!!",Grandpa said.
Hate to get too political,
[scroll on down if you don't like politics}
especially with all you worthless self-righteous, high & mighty left wingers out there in the audience
who've never worked a damn day in your
academic/artistic/professional/ bureaucratic life
with your superiority complex that labels people like me a fool, a moron or mo' worser.
Hate to hurt your Bolshevist feelings BUT
our old buddy David Horowitz has put it to the
MOST WORTHLESS SCALAWAG OF THEM ALL- JIMMY CARTER.
Please watch David's new video called
JIMMY CARTER'S WAR AGAINST THE JEWS

JIMMY gets it honest though.
His family & friends

are among the most worthless left wing trash that have ever come out of Sumter County Georgia
& his rise to power is a LESSON IN DISASTER!!!!
It is impossible to chronicle all the manners of HELL this man has brought to this Earth.
When I watched David Horowitz's video
about this narcissistic psychopath Carter who's own family in Sumter County has disowned him,
I felt the presence of my Daddy Earl, my Uncle Page & my Uncle Frank looking down from Heaven in satisfaction knowing that someone had finally fingered this worthless
"christian" Marxist domestic enemy of our country Karter!
I bet you Left Wingers don't even have the courage to watch the video,
you bunch of destructive, self righteous, self hating chumps!

Since that cat who sang SO INTO YOU at the end of LOST IN TRANSLATION contacted me, I've been doing a little research on the movie.
I've seen bits and pieces of the film but it just looked like "washed up actor goes to Tokyo" & I never paid ANY attention to it.
This is a love story with absolutely NO SEX IN IT AT ALL.
It's the most unHollywood thing to ever come out of Hollywood & the closest it comes to sex is when the couple hears SO INTO YOU during the evacuation of a restaurant at the end.
The point of the movie is that sex is secondary when your true motive is to meet another person of the opposite sex who you want to get to know &
who actually WANTS to try to understand you.
I really hope you contact Mark Willms & help him cut your song...

Old posts from ARS bassist Paul Goddard off of yahoogroups Champagne Jam:
Hi All, I thought I would liven up our site with a few excerpts from
very early posts made to our group back in April of 2000. Paul
Goddard used to chime in after he discovered us, and would drop a few
old thoughts and stories. I thought they might be enjoyable to some
of our recent members, or anyone else that may have missed them.
Might even generate some Conversation……
Hey guys and girls,
Paul Goddard here.
I have been so touched by the nice things that I have read here,
there is
no way to tell you. This weekend I will try to spend some time
answering
questions I have seen posted.
Buddy Buie used to say i had the memory of an elephant and the body to
match.
Having spent the last 20 years not playing professionally, it has been
overwhelming to know that people really remember me. My main job in
ARS, in my
mind anyway, was to get Barry off, like kick him up a notch. We
thought like one
mind anyway ... he was my best friend ... on stage I loved to play
licks that
made him play a little harder. He did the same for me. We had so many
inside
musical jokes between us it was like we were in our own world
sometimes.
Thanks Ronald for the nice things you said, I sat at work today and
was
truly moved.
Boogie Smoogie was one of my favorite songs to jam on, funny lyrics
too, it
said no matter what we tried to play, jazz, progressive, whatever,
all they
wanted was boogie.
I'll be back and talk about Don Kirsner's rock concert and The
Midnight
Special (Wolfman Jack was cool, everything else sucked badly, 10CC
walked off
the taping and we got to do 3 more songs).
I am just full of this kinda trash.
Thanks again for the nice words. You make an old geezer want to pick
up his
Rickenbacher again.
Hey folks, Paul G. here ... I said I would talk about the Midnight
Special that we did sometime around 1977 or 78. At the time it was
just about the only rock show on TV; there was no MTV or VH1. It was
in NBC on Friday night after Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, from 1
till 2:30 am. It was produced by Burt Sugarman, a local L.A. car
dealer who decide to get into TV production. It was hosted by the
legendary "Wolfman Jack," who was very hip, considering how straight
the Midnight Special production was. We had been on the road for
quite a while in ARS terms. We never did six month tours; 5 weeks was
a long tour for us. The night before we had played in San Jose,
California with AC-DC, one of the worst combinations that could have
been. Their audience was, in my opinion, brain-dead. They did not
care for us and the feeling was mutual. Hence a dedication from me on
one of our albums, "To the airheads of San Jose". (That dedication
prompted many questions over the years.) Anyway, we could not get to
L.A. for the TV taping till about 4 in the afternoon, we all were out
of clean clothes, and we were very tired. NBC was supposed to furnish
us with showers and a hot meal, neither of which ever happened, and
our road crew was ticked off when we arrived because the TV people
just didn't understand rock and roll bands. There was much tension in
the air as the 8 o clock taping approached Barry and I shared a
dressing room with a TV monitor that let you see
all the shows that were being taped. 10cc were supposed to be taping
and sharing
the show with us. They were very hot, having just had the hit "I'm
Not In Love".
They got so disgusted that they walked off the taping at about 6 P.M.
We were told that now we were the only hosts and we could do three
more songs.
This was great but the attitude at the time was that everyone
involved was so
mad that I was afraid we were going to take a hike also. But we went
on. The
Wolfman came up to us just before the tape rolled and said "this show
is a real
pain, the audience is made up of friends and family of big wheels at
NBC, same
people every week, they are a tough audience 'cause they have seen it
all and
they are a bunch of spoiled rich kids. The lights came up and the
Wolfman took
over. Some of the crowd started making some smart aleck comments and
he shut
them up real fast. "Hey babies, why don't you shut up and welcome
some really
cool guys from Georgia. They have had a rough day and are gonna blow
your
minds." The crowd got quiet and behaved after that. We went on, the
show went
fine, especially the last jam with Randall Bramblett and some other
Southern
buddies. We all did "Long Tall Sally". I will never forget the way
the "Wolfman"
handled that. He was one of my idols anyway, I used to listen to him
when he
broadcast from Mexico with 100000 watts, playing the dirtiest blues
you ever
heard. His show went all over North America. (There is a CD out with
actual
Wolfman shows. It is cool.) Anyway, that's what I remember, hope I
didn't bore
you, I thought some of you might enjoy a little inside look at what
it was like
in those days.
